Five for Five - Great White North 2008

Great White North Triathlon. 13th Male. 4:23:00. Solid execution and pacing in all three disciplines. A few GI issues and a minute or two lost on the bike to tweak my back wheel... but I`m happy with the result nonetheless.

Yep, another rainy race.... getting used to it. The deluge stopped about 30km into the bike.. but threatened all day.... and finally down-pouring on the 7-8 hour finishers.

I missed the IMC spot... so I`ll be out there watching, but not racing. Not really that disappointed... I`d rather enjoy the day with Naomi anyways, since our wedding is 4 days beforehand. I`m pondering a late season iron distance... and Silverman might be the ticket.... one of the hardest IM courses in the world... and VEGAS too! Naomi would do the Half-iron distance race. We`ll decide by the end of August.

Now I can focus on my fastest race at Kelowna Apple... see how close I can get to the Canadian AG podium.

You really tore it up out there. When I saw you on the run you were gutting it out and giving it hard and I just went _wow_.

Totally impressed.

Greg... I didn't reconize you on the bike. What tri suit were you wearing? Were you one of the dudes that passed me while I was picking up my bottles on the side of the road? That was embarrassing, I thought I had that holder all figured out.

Let's hear a review of your new bike now that you have put it through its paces.

Trev,

You passed me just after the aid station in Stony Plain. I was wearing a black 2XU tri suit, and a Spiuk aero helmet.

The bike... love it. It is a bit quirky though. The Bayonet fork has just "settled" in, and after an adjustment by Cam this week, doesn't creak anymore. The tight tolerances mean that any grit that gets in there can scratch things up... so I take care to keep it clean.. although racing in the rain 5 times hasn't helped.

It's very stiff and comfortable, more so than my old P3.

I had a problem with the left back wheel set screw on this race; it stuck and I couldn't get the wheel adjusted properly. Tom from WPF aligned it and set the skewer super-tight... but I stopped at 55km as I was paranoid and was convinced it had come out of alignment and was rubbing. But after a quick check... seemed to be fine.

And finally, I dialed in my seat position correctly after Oliver. After some careful measurements, I figured it was about 5-6mm too high! No wonder I was having muscular issues at that race... doh!

Oh, also forgot to mention that registration closes on Thurs at noon for the Jay Lap. Make sure to register before that. Frank mentioned that you were thinking about it.
